ONEIKA MAYS DEDICATED MEDITATION AND YOGA TEACHER
Hi there, I’m Oneika Mays, Meditation teacher, E-RYT and LMT. I’ve been teaching for over a decade. I discovered yoga over 20 years ago while working as a leader in retail. I was inspired to change careers because I found that the mindfulness and movement practices transformed my life. Since then I’ve used what I’ve learned to support social justice non-profits and marginalized communities. I’m passionate about getting in touch with the ‘smallness’ of life. Currently I’m the Mindfulness Coach at Rikers Island Correctional Facility. Change that’s small is also powerful. In addition to my work within the prison system, I teach classes, facilitate workshops, trainings and lead retreats. I believe that when we can connect with ourselves we can become more connected to the world around us.
Anyone can meditate! Sometimes starting is the hardest part, but I am here to guide you on your inner journey and get you to where you want to be. See below to learn more about the services I offer.
I’ve been teaching for over an decade and am an E-RYT. Whether it’s vinyasa, restorative or therapeutic my classes are infused with a sense of play and compassion. I have students at all levels and all environments from studios to corporate environments to prisons.
I lead several workshops in trauma conscious yoga/mindfulness, meditation, yoga and meditation. In these workshops we explore various systems and how compassion for self and others can impact specific communities.

“ Helping is not serving. Teaching meditation and trauma informed yoga in jail has taught me this. Serving students means that I set a tone of support and safety. This means really seeing the people who take class. Class is no longer mine. It belongs to the student.”
